A transformer position sensor includes a primary coil, a secondary coil, and an electrically shorted coil. The primary coil is adapted to receive an excitation signal and is configured, upon receipt of the excitation signal, to generate a primary magnetic flux. The electrically shorted coil is inductively coupled to receive at least a portion of the primary magnetic flux generated by the primary coil.
