Biography

Craige is an experienced electrical engineer and accomplished patent attorney. He has substantial experience in patent licensing, prior art searching, due diligence, prosecution, opinion, reexamination, and litigation. He has handled cases that involve complex technologies that range from electrical engineering to mechanical engineering, software, and medical devices. Craige has enjoyed particular success in protecting and licensing clients’ complex green technologies that radically improve energy efficiency.

Craige brings a unique blend of legal, technical and entrepreneurial experience to Thompson Patent Law clients, including Google, Apple, Intel, Honeywell, Boston Scientific, Hallmark, Gillette, Duracell, SAP, Olympus, Applied Materials, LeCroy, and the University of Minnesota.

Growing up in an entrepreneurial environment, Craige worked in his father’s business from the time he was 5 years old through college. Craige attended the University of Wisconsin where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering.

Before attending law school, Craige had significant technical experiences in analog design, power electronics, magnetics, and product development. He was a Design Engineer in the Product Development Group for Plexus Technology Group where he specialized in analog circuits, power supplies, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and PCB design. He was also a Research Assistant at the Wisconsin Electric Machines and Power Electronics Consortium (WEMPEC).  Craige also earned the Professional Engineer (PE) license while living in North Carolina.

After working for several years as an engineer, Craige attended the University of Wisconsin Law School where he graduated cum laude and received his Juris Doctorate.

Prior to establishing his current patent law practice, Craige’s legal experience involved a uniquely balanced mix of all phases of the patent life cycle. He practiced in the Twin Cities office of Fish & Richardson P.C. During those years, Fish & Richardson routinely ranked at or near the top of all patent firms in both patent litigation and patent prosecution.

All of these experiences have given Craige a passion for creating high business value for small, medium, and large clients by providing comprehensive patent services. He has earned an exceptional reputation within the industry.

On Patent Offense, Craige is known among colleagues for his Litigation Quality Patent processes as the “Examiner Whisperer.”

On Patent Defense, he is known for his work in freedom to operate, patent litigation and patent re-examination as the “Patent Killer.”

Craige and his staff will work with you to accomplish your goals and will provide you with great advice. He works with his clients to establish a realistic budget, but because his processes are so great, he doesn’t overcharge.

I was able to meet with Craige and he really put me at ease and made me feel comfortable asking as many questions as I needed. He was very sincere and didn’t rush our consult. He even went as far to share with me information that I wouldn’t have known to ask about that was key to my overall success. I’ve spoken to other attorneys in the past that made me feel as if I were just another number in line and waiting to take all the money I had. Craige did just the opposite and even saved me tons of money. I would certainly recommend Thompson Patent Law to anyone in search of this particular service. All in all the level of service was excellent.

Craige clarified the whole complicated process making it easy for me to understand and after two years and several meetings with the Patent Examiner I final received a patent! Over the last year I have worked with a manufacturer and my Dusk2Dawn Safety device can be found at some retail stores and on line! Thank you Craige
