
Craige is an experienced electrical engineer and patent attorney. He has substantial experience in patent licensing, prior art searching, due diligence, prosecution, opinions and reexamination, on technologies ranging from electrical and mechanical engineering to software and medical devices. He has had particular success protecting and licensing complex green technologies that radically improve energy efficiency.
Craige brings a blend of legal, technical and entrepreneurial experience to Thompson Patent Law clients, who have included Google, Apple, Intel, Honeywell, Boston Scientific, Hallmark, Gillette, Duracell, SAP, Olympus, Applied Materials, LeCroy and the University of Minnesota.
Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, Craige worked in his father’s business from the age of five through college. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
Before law school, he worked in analog design, power electronics, magnetics and product development. As a Design Engineer in the Product Development Group at Plexus Technology Group, he specialized in analog circuits, power supplies, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and PCB design. He was also a Research Assistant at the Wisconsin Electric Machines and Power Electronics Consortium (WEMPEC), and earned his Professional Engineer (PE) license while living in North Carolina.
Craige became a registered patent agent during his first semester of law school, then graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School. In 2024 he earned an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology, adding to his ability to build strategies for monetizing intellectual property.
Before founding his own practice, Craige practiced in the Twin Cities office of Fish & Richardson P.C., one of the top-ranked patent firms in the country, where his work spanned every phase of the patent life cycle. Colleagues know him as the “Examiner Whisperer” for his Litigation Quality Patent process, and for his freedom-to-operate and reexamination work.
